Blood + DVD Part 2 Impression

Saya finishes the battle with Diva in this hit and miss second season of Blood+

Blood + has been a mixed bag of an anime with this second volume on DVD. The tale begins and ends (continues?) with Saya Otonashi and it’s also in Saya at the anime’s strengths and weakness reside. The short and quite excellent Blood: The Last Vampire shows a girl in Saya that’s ruthless yet compassionate and all together badass. In plus viewers get Saya in name and abilities but lacking in said badass-ed-ness. What is it about this second season that drains on Saya so much? Let’s take a gander …

A story about those who help regulate death

The collected volumes, 1-3, of Black Gate from Tokyopop offers up a nice story at a very nice price less than the sum of its parts. The Witch of Artemis vol. 1 Impression

Can a planet where magic and witches be real? Kazuki is about to find out on Artemis.

Yui Hara draws one nice looking, cookie cutter manga with The Witch of Artemis volume 1 from Tokyopop. Flipping through the pages the learned manga fan will see character designs, settings and background on par with the shoujo genre’s finest upper-middle class. While this may sound not so appealing know this; Artemis is a thing of beauty to read it’s just not awe-inspiring but then again how many manga really are. Besides solid art what else is this book about, glad you asked …

Tsubasa: The OVA Collection, Spring Thunder and Tokyo Revelations Blu-ray Impression

Two epic tales part of one incredible epic journey. Tsubasa as you know it ends and begins again with Spring Thunder and Tokyo Revelations.

The Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE series from Clamp, published by FUNimation, is epic in scale and storytelling as well as sheer DVD length. Both magical and beautiful the story takes quite an investment from its fans but there are few anime that look and sound this good on Blu-ray. The latest release in the franchise is a collection of two OVA (think straight to DVD releases) which fill in so many plot points that it’s a must have for fans. As for gamers with Blu-ray and DVD playing in their favorite consoles and the ability to rent, your reason for wanting is as follows.

Happy Cafe vol. 1 Impression

This is one cafe that will leave readers themselves feeling happy

Every once in a while a manga comes along that does not sport the flashy cover or eye melting art but it manages to wrap up the reader all the same with a touching story; a mixture of humor and romance that’s predictable yet so engaging. Happy Cafe volume 1 from Tokyopop is just such a manga. The tale of smallish Uru is fun and engaging, a well told tale by Kou Matsuzuki. So who is Uru and what’s she got going on, let’s take a look.

Shadows of the Damned GDC Images

Action and horror combined in a tasty treat from EA

Sometimes a game just messes with gamers head, leaves reactions of ‘that’s just not right’ and Shadows of the Damned looks to be one of those games. Tons of action await as does some psychologically thrilling situations and images that should and will leave gamers a bit disturbed. The trailer and images draw comparisons to Resident Evil but the twisted imaginations crating Shadows really must have watched a few of the Hellraiser movies. Story tracks a former turned current demon hunter named Garcia as he tracks down his abducted girlfriend with the aid of a weapon transforming–into demon. Sounds standard but what promises not to be is the way light vs. dark weaves into gameplay from puzzles to combat.

Faery Legends of Avalon Impression

Downloadable role-playing action waits on PSN

Role-playing games are not for everyone. They usually require hours of gameplay with tons of character management and customization and days of turn-based battles. The hook is usually a deep story where gamers know and care for the characters and settings during the course of such a long journey. Faery: Legends of Avalon looks to crack, no break, but crack this mold as an RPG download experience on both the PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE Arcade. The first biggest change is the hours invested, usually clocking in around 10-15 hours (main quest) but what else? What should RPG fans get excited about and does Faery offer enough to hook new non-RPG gamers? Let’s take a look.

Catherine on PS3 and Xbox 360 from Atlus

Get excited, get very, very excited for the mature, psychological and downright gorgeous looking game Catherine from Atlus U.S.A.

Catherine looks amazing but it’s the story this Atlus U.S.A. title brings to both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 that should get gamers jazzed. The screenshots and teaser video show off a game that sports a mature romance thriller story wrapped in great looking HD animations. The few game sequences seen don’t disappoint but it’s the story that is exciting to see. The tale of Vincent and his love triangle with Katherine and Catherine is mature, seductive and quite thrilling in its look and content. A truly mature title that’s not over the top for the fun of it but rather to make this a truly unique experience. The game looks naughty and should make gamers blush a bit in content, but this is all based on the game description, image and video. Keep an eye on this one, it should be quite interesting.
